About Us

KLS was established in 1986 as a family owned property management company. We manage our properties with the highest level of pride and care. We provide apartment communities with the same standards of upkeep that our owners would expect in their own house.

Our maintenance team, plumbers, electricians, general contractors and subcontractors all know that our tenants are critical to our operations. By providing the same level of care in our services as we would demand for our families we are able to nurture the family atmosphere that has enabled the company to grow to over 23 properties under management. We manage properties ranging from four units to 126 units located throughout the San Fernando Valley, West Los Angeles and Santa Monica.

Our founder Melvin Plutsky has been known to visit the properties and rub his finger below a countertop, on a stairwell or in other less noticeable areas and comment that "it better look fresh". With this attention to detail all of our property managers and support staff know that our buildings have to look fresh and inviting at all times.

Our Team

Melvin Plutsky

Mel was born in The Bronx, New York and has been living in Los Angeles since the age of 10. He has a B.A. in Business from U.C.L.A. and has his CPA license and is licensed as a California Real Estate Broker. He has been investing in and managing apartment buildings since the 1970's and formed KLS Financial in 1986. He has developed projects from the ground up and takes a long term approach to Real Estate Investment and Property Management.

Kim Shapiro

Kim was born and raised in Los Angeles and has a B.A. from Cal State Northridge as well as a California Real Estate Sales License. She has been working as the Property Supervisor for KLS for over 15 years. Kim overseas all of the onsite property managers as well as the maintenance team and outside contractors. She deals with tenant issues that escalate beyond the onsite property managers to ensure a fair and equitable outcome.

Lauren Goldberg

Lauren is from Los Angeles and has a B.A. from San Diego State. She has been working for KLS for over 10 years and handles all day to day accounting, payroll, vendor payments, monthly reports, investor distributions and compliance issues.

Stephen Plutsky

Stephen is from Los Angeles and has a B.A. in Business Economics with an Accounting emphasis from U.C.S.B. He has a CPA license and is licensed as a California Real Estate Broker. He joined the company in 2011 and is in charge of acquisitions, finance and operations. Prior to joining KLS Stephen worked as a Controller and a CFO for both public and private Internet Technology based companies. He also owned and operated Companies focused on Consumer Debt Settlement.

Karen Gavrity

Karen hails from New York. She joined the Company in 2002 as our office manager and handles all day to day operations acting as a central communication coordinator between all of the onsite property managers, contractors, vendors and the rest of our office team. She is the oil in our spokes that keeps things running smoothly.

Resident Managers

We employ high caliber trained and experienced resident managers at our properties who oversee their buildings and go out of their way to ensure that our tenants and properties are well taken care of. At KLS we take great pride in employee retention. Some of our resident managers have been with the Company for over 20 years.
